In the face of the widely recognized phenomenon of man-made climate change and in the context in which easily accessible oil reserves are beginning to peak, energy security is today of major importance for the future. Considering the impact of transportation sector on the climate, but also on the quality of the air, among other socio-environmental and energy security issues, not only the use of technologies to increase energy efficiency, but also new forms of fuel have been proposed as an alternative: biofuels.
